When You Are Having A Panic Attack…

Here are some important things to remember when having a Panic Attack:

  • Heart palpitations and chest pain don’t mean you are going to have a heart attack
  • Lightheadedness and dizziness don’t mean you will pass out
  • Feeling like you are in a fishbowl doesn’t mean you will “drown”
  • Feeling trapped does not mean you cannot escape
  • Nausea, sweating, and chills don’t mean you are going to die

Panic is an “extreme sport”. Symptoms are extreme, negative thoughts are extreme, worries are extreme. Try to remember that panic is a surreal experience.

It is a distorted representation of your fears, worries, and physical symptoms. Try to remember this next time you panic: “I make it through each and every panic attack; I’ll make it through this one too”.
